| CNA Program Achieves Excellent Success Rates |
 |
In conjunction with Linn-Benton Community College, Mennonite Village offers Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) classes every five weeks, year round. Students complete a 900-page text book in three weeks, and then practice 76 separate skills, each with 10-20 steps that must be performed in proper order. Finally, the students do actual patient care for two weeks.
To get their licenses, students take a state written exam and a skills test. If they miss any critical step, they do not pass. In the past year, 99% of our students passed the written test the first time (100% after one student re-took the exam), and 98% passed the skills test the first time. Our program's pass rates consistently rank in the highest percentile in the state of Oregon.
Donna Smith, RN, the nursing assistant instructor says, "I've been a nurse for 43 years, working in intensive care, ER, and surgery, and I now love sharing what I've learned with students. It just feeds my soul to see students reach their dreams of becoming caregivers and nurses. I have the best job in the world!" (Donna is the subject of the students' shaving practice in the photo, above.)

| A Thank You Letter |
Dear Lydia's House Staff (Mennonite Village Memory Care),
"We are so happy for all the wonderful care that Mom received at Lydia's House, I just had to write and say thank you. It was such a relief to us to know that Mom was being well taken care of. We have talked to friends who alwys worried about the care their parents were receiving at other facilities, but we never worried about that.
Your gentleness and consistency were amazing. We felt that you had genuine concern for residents and weren't just putting in time on a job. We also appreciated the hospitality and warmth shown to us during Mom's last days. We were very comfortable staying with her, and never made to feel we were in the way.
We were particularly touched that a few of the aides made a special point of coming in to say goodbye to Mom. It was heartening to have others validate our feelings for our Mom, even as she was leaving us.
I hope each of you knows how much you are appreciated and how important your work is for the families as well as for the residents. We will be eternally grateful."
